Hello! My name is Dominique Jordan.
My husband & I live in Jackson, Mississippi, & we currently have three sons in college and one daughter in high-school.
Creating & studying art has been a passion of mine my whole life.
The opportunity to share my artwork with you is such an honor! Thank you!
In recent years my main focus has been watercolor & ink on paper.
Many of these pieces are offered affordably & conveniently as open-edition prints for sale; see the menu tab "Ordering Watercolor Prints."
I also paint in oils on board or stretched canvas, & a sampling of these originals can be viewed in the menu tab "Oil Painting Gallery."
Most recently, I have found great delight in combining my years of calligraphy experience with my love of painting & history to produce pieces with both text & design elements.
My appreciation & admiration for this style began many years ago in a college class of mine at SMU: "History of the Bible in the Renaissance."
I fell in love with the work of Albrecht Durer & also the work of every unnamed monk whose beautiful penmanship & illustrations filled the Bibles made prior to the printing press. We got to visit SMU's rare books collection, hold illuminated Bibles, & even use a real Gutenberg printing press. I was hooked!
The Uncial & Carolingian styles of calligraphy lettering featured in some of the examples below are reminiscent of these texts; drawing inspiration from medieval "Illuminated Manuscripts" which were painstakingly hand-lettered & painted by monks in monasteries who served as scribes.
Reproducing & updating this type of art in my own hand & style is both humbling & rewarding.
My hope is that God will use my artwork to exalt His name as we take time to reflect on the glory of His creation, the talents & the appreciation of beauty that He's given to us as His image-bearers, & most of all His Son - the Word made flesh.
